Manufacturers and 3d printing companies will request your invention design or product design be in one of the following 3D CAD design file formats for 3d printing a prototype or for designing molds or for pricing manufactured parts for the production of your invention.
1) STP or STEP design file format – this is mostly used for designing molds or for pricing manufactured parts
2) IGS or IGES design file format – this is mostly used for designing molds or for pricing manufactured parts
3) STL design file format – this is mostly used by 3d printing companies for 3d printing parts and prototypes
